In 2001 VR ordered 16 Dm12 DMU's from Vagonka Studenka based on CD(CZ) class 843. They will replace loco-hauled trains on low-density routes. The driver is expected to manage the conductor's duties which will reduce costs. Each car will have a cab at each end, three seating areas with two entrances between. There will be a wheel-chair lift and space for prams or wheel chairs. The railbuses will have a maximum speed of 120 km/h, 63 seating places and up to three units can be coupled together.

On sping 2007 Dm12 was used on following routes:

* Joensuu - Pieksämäki since 17.5.2005
* Joensuu - Nurmes since 7.11.2005
* Ylivieska - Iisalmi since 7.12.2005
* Parikkala - Savonlinna since 8.1.2006
* Tampere - Haapamäki since 6.3.2006
* Karjaa - Hanko since 3.4.2006
* Jyväskylä - Haapamäki - Seinäjoki since 3.9.2006 (Mo-Th)
