Dr16 is the newest diesel locomotive in Finland. It is manufactured by Valmet (later Transtech) in Finland and it first run in 1985. Although it uses modern technology it has had some problems, mainly because it lacks some power.
Dr16 has 3-phase AC motors. 21 locomotives are equipped with SEMT-Pielstick 12PA4V200 VG -engine. Two prototype locomotives are equipped with Wärtsilä engines. These two locomotives numbered 2801 and 2803 were scrapped in March 2004. Data is given for Pielstick engine, which power was reduced in 1998 about 180 kW because of technical problems.
