Sm1 was the first electric train in Finland. First unit was manufactured
in the year 1968 and last 1973. With Sm1 began electric traffic between
Helsinki and Kirkkonummi in the year 1969.
Sm1 has motor carriage Sm1 and driving
van
trailer Eio or Eiob. Both Sm1 and Sm2 achieve between 0 and 30 km/h
an acceleration of 0.84 m/s2 when full and an acceleration of
1.13 m/s2 when empty. Maximum six Sm2 and Sm1 can be coupled
together to build a train with 12 wagons, but normally the length of the
platform limits this to five Sm1 or Sm2 units [1].
Trains were generally reconstructed in years 1996-2000. The
test unit 6006 of reconstruction was rebuilt in 1994. Weigth
of the unit has grown a bit because of the reconstruction.
