Luumäki-Vainikkala

Luumäki-Vainikkala is one of the most important and heavily loaded cargo lines in Finland, because most of transit traffic to/from St. Petersburg, Russia use it. Passenger traffic is now modest, but will rise in near future. Line is also part of EU TEN network.

Line plan was ready on 1997. Line costs about EUR 66,8 million in 1997 prices. In year 2003 price was given as EUR 85 million by RHK. Line has a cost/benefit ratio of 2.4. A decision of building is not made.

Line goes max 1.5 km north of old line. New line will have only one track, because old track stays in use too. New line will have only one meeting point, old one has two.
