Vantaankoski-Hiekkaharju

The Marja Line will be a double track railway for passenger transport. It will be equipped with automatic train control, and the maximum speed of trains will be 120 km/h. The length of the line will be 17.5 km, of which approximately 7.5 km will be in a tunnel. The number of new stations will be 6-8.

The Marja Line will connect the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to the rail network thus making a contribution to the development of the Trans-European Networks. The new line will be connected to the commuter traffic tracks of the main rail line. Additionally, the reservation to the north of the Marja Line for connecting the new line to the long-distance tracks of the main line will be upheld. The budget of the project is approximately 300 million euros, originally 252 million. Cost/benefit ratio is 1.5. The line can be constructed and launched in three phases.

There are plans for new residential areas accommodating ca. 20 000 inhabitants in Marja-Vantaa and around 5000 inhabitants in Asola. The planned employment numbers about 12 000 jobs in Marja-Vantaa, ca. 10 000 in and around the airport and about 5000 in Ruskeasanta. Should the Marja Line not be realized, the new residents and jobs would locate more scatteredly in the Metropolitan Area and the surrounding municipalities. Transport costs and the emissions of pollutants will be markedly lowered by the higher density enabled by the Marja Line.
