Dr15 was a trial locomotive for a serie of heavy diesel locomotives. Locomotive
was modified from Dr12 locomotive in January 1980,
but abandoned in 1984.
In 1978 VR thought to modernize Dr12 locomotives. But as new lines were
electricified, VR decided in 1982 to buy new shunting locomotives with
weigth about 80 t and about 1500 kW power being capable to haul passanger
and freigth trains but also to do shunting work. This later realisied in
Dr16.
